Testing Day

Wednesday February 19
Today when I got to the hospital Jack was already sunbathing. He's having an EKG too.

Both boys continued to have episodes of bradycardia and decreased 02 today. Miles had 19, Jack had 16. They each had to be stimulated a few times to bring them around. Each day that this happens, 5-7 days are added to the NICU stay for observation.

Jack & Miles heard about the kids in South Korea attending school 7 days a week to get ahead. They thought that was a good idea & thought they should have some tests too. They both had EKGs and ultrasounds of their heads to r/o brain bleeding. These were normal. They had repeat blood count checks looking for infection or anemia which were also normal. Repeat blood cultures were drawn and they are checking the placenta for infection.

Great Grandma Joyce Ekern stopped in for a visit. She is ecstatic to have twins in the family. Her mother Georgiana was an identical twin who died when Joyce was 10 months old.

Grandma LuAnne stopped by too. She thinks the babies just miss each other. They used to put twins in the same bassinet. There was 1 bad experience somewhere & the AAP nixed that.

Justin & I have felt very calm with everything going on. We both have a gut feeling that the boys are fine and just need some time to come around. Sam was very sleepy & it took him also a long time so I think that is just the way our babies are.

On a good note, oxygen came off since it wasn't helping anyway!

We have been worried about big brother Sam not getting as much attention. He has been amazing! He sees the babies on face time & loves looking at pictures. He talks about 'my brothers Miles & Jack' often. Love this kid!
